"We Tame The Flames
And Choke The Smoke"

Ben Franklin

"An Ounce Of Prevention
Is Worth A Pound Of Cure"

Awareness Blog

My blog honors Ben Franklin the man that coined the phrase, "An Ounce Of Prevention Is Worth A Pound Of Cure", which is so relevant today when it relates to making high density wood framed buildings safer from fire for workers and fire fighters.

Who would have thought that the same practical man from Philadelphia, who helped found the United States of America in 1776, would also make so many important contributions to fire prevention and safety during Colonial America?

In the spirit of Ben Franklin's pioneering work in fire prevention and safety, I have been advocating for safer and better practices in the US building industry. I have been beating the fire safety drum for over a decade now, while being involved in wood framed building on both sides, from the supply to the frame for over 40 years. Much like Ben Franklin had two carpenters on his original fire fighting team, I like to surround myself with knowledgable construction leaders who also support the cause of defending affordable housing with renewable sustainable lumber, for the benefit of future generations.

American Builders Have To Get Smarter About Risk Management

July 18 2018 by Steve Conboy

The Insurance Risk Management Underwriters are smart people, they know if a builder is blowing smoke when trying to make jobs safer with just a few cameras, taller fences and a few security guards. In all North American cities, wood framed buildings of all sizes are burning down by arson strikes, lightning or natural disaster. An epidemic of job site fires has been affecting scores of townhouses and apartments with well over 20 in just the last 18 months. The big question is who and where is next when it comes to an underwriter...

Building a Culture of Safety In High Density Wood Framed Projects

Working with an astute and proactive Insurance Broker will help you convince the underwriters to lower your premiums if you are willing to defend raw lumber from fire because it is the new way to go today. The best approach is to have a pro active broker that is willing to work along side you to embrace new technologies to show the underwriters willing to help lower your premiums which oftentimes consume your margins.

Unfortunately, many in the fire service suggest that their value within their communities is obvious and non-negotiable it’s to protect life and property. But how do we qualify and/or quantify those answers? It goes beyond just saying what your ISO rating is. It means being able to articulate a dollar amount of what the ISO rating means to the insured, and what it would be if it increases or decreases. In other words, how many buildings and lives does your fire house save. M-Fire is out to help the Fire Chief that makes the final decision on whether he is going to allow his brave firefighters in a fire protected lumber building under construction because we are supplying him data like he has never seen before in real time before the fire trucks even pull up...

We need to do more to solve the World’s Energy Crisis on this over populated planet and the more Tall Mass Timber Wooden Buildings we build the more renewable and sustainable we become because of it's positive impact on energy consumption.

The production and disposal of concrete is one of the worst pollutants in the world. In regards to steel, which takes tons of energy to produce, we need to support companies that are developing mass timber wooden buildings to answer the problems in energy consumption. Steel and concrete are destroying our ozone with carbon. We need to engage a us congressperson to draft and propose a new Bill to Amendmend Q45 and provide tax credits to wood frame builder/owners and mass timber builder/owners who build with class-a fire protected carbon quantized wood products and building...
